Jennifer R. Thompson is a multidisciplinary artist, Soundpainter and pedagogue. She is equally accomplished artist in the performing and visual arts disciplines as a musician (singer and guitarist) dancer, actor, filmmaker, painter, sculptor and writer. She is the founder of The Swedish Soundpainting Orchestra established in 2001, Helsingborg Sweden, now based in Malmö, Sweden. Jennifer Rahfeldt is one of the first 5 people to learn Soundpainting other than its creator Walter Thompson She met Thompson in 1998 in Austin Texas and studied with him for two years and then brought Soundpainting back to Sweden and created The Swedish Soundpainting Orchestra. The Swedish Soundpainting Orchestra is a multidisciplinary group comprising musicians, actors, dancers and visual artists. They have performed in many art halls, galleries and museums in Sweden and Denmark. The Orchestra has collaborated with other Soundpainting orchestras including The Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra, Borderline Ensemble of Denmark and The Walter Thompson Orchestra based in New York City. The Swedish Soundpainting Orchestra has an education outreach mission. Jennifer Rahfeldt, along with members of the Swedish Soundpainting Orchestra, have taught Soundpainting and created performances with young children, community organizations, teenagers at risk and with people that have learning and physical disabilities. Her work with young children, ages 2 to 5, is titled THE FROG BALLET. It is an activity-based program using Soundpainting as the driving force. Children learn to explore and develop their creativity by learning some of the gestures and explore improvisation using their voice, movement, visual props and costumes. Jennifer Rahfeldt is a frequent guest professor at schools and conservatories both nationally and internationally. Some of the schools/conservatories she has taught Soundpainting at include The Royal Conservatory Antwerp, Belgium; Musik Hocheschule in Luzern, Switzerland; Solna Kulturhus in Stockholm Sweden and with the music program El Systema in elementary and middle schools based in Denver, Colorado.
